Our birth centres offers a 'home from home' environment to mothers-to-be with a straightforward pregnancy that are expected to give birth between 37 and 42 weeks. A birth centre provides another option in addition to a home birth or the consultant led labour ward.
The Mulberry Birth Centre at Frimley Park
The birth centre has five birth rooms, with en-suite facilities and one which includes a birth pool with mood lighting. The rooms are furnished to support your choice of natural birth and create an atmosphere that will help you and your birth partner feel as calm as possible.
The centre offers a range of traditional and alternative methods of pain relief, including water/pool, gas and air (entonox), pethidine, and TENS. The emphasis of the Mulberry Birth Centre is on the use of mobility and water to cope with labour. When you are in established labour your birth room will be ready to provide and promote active birth, which means that you will be encouraged to move about freely and to find your own comfortable positions during contractions. Slings, bean bags, birthing balls and mats will help you be active during your labour as this is well known for improving the birthing experience and facilitating normal birth. Please feel free to bring your own music (CD players and docking stations are available) and small personal items to create a homely and relaxing atmosphere.
Our highly skilled midwives are able to recognise and act upon any findings that may cause concern in you or your unborn baby’s condition. If there are concerns you will be transferred to the labour ward (adjacent to the birth centre) where you will be assessed by the obstetric team.

The Birth Centre at Wexham Park
The birth centre has five birth rooms, two of which have en-suite facilities and one a birth pool. The rooms are furnished to support your choice of natural birth and create an atmosphere that will help you and your family to feel as calm as possible. There is a fully equipped kitchen where snacks and food can be warmed or stored and a lounge/ dining room for you to relax either during the early stages of labour or following birth.
The centre offers a range of traditional and alternative methods of pain relief, including aromatherapy, massage, gas and air (entonox), pethidine, an active birth pool and TENS. The centre encourages active birth, and there are birthing balls, mats and beanbags available to ensure that women are given every opportunity to labour and birth in the way they wish.
If you need more medical intervention once your labour has started we can organise a quick and easy transfer to our labour ward, where the full range of medical intervention is available.
If complications arise during labour or if your labour does not progress as expected we will transfer you to our labour ward to complete your birth. If this happens, wherever possible the birth centre midwives will continue your care, or it may be necessary to transfer your care to one of the midwives on the labour ward.
The birth centre has a six-bedded postnatal room, which is available for women and their babies to relax and recuperate after the birth. You should be able to go home between six and twenty four hours after the birth.
We encourage birth partners of your choice to stay with you for support throughout your labour and birth. The visiting times after birth for all other visitors is 2pm – 5.30pm and 7pm – 8pm
